Apart from the enormous losses due to the general state

of war, the damages arising from the Compulsory liquidation, as set forth in this document will be so extensive that without any doubt

it will be impossible for most of the firms to stand than.

Over and above immediate financial loss our Hongkong

firms have not only been brought to a standstill by the action of the Hongkong Government but so uprooted that German labours of many years have been robbed of their fruits (this was expressly

stated in the protest to the Hongkong Government on October 30) and

the continuance of German trade and German firms in Hongkong have

been called in question.

In any case it would need beginning all over again and a

desperate struggle under aggravated conditions in the future, be-

-cause the English competition will be all the keener and, except

for the x active and of course friendly competition of the Japanese, will know how to derive benefit from the present disas-

-ter to the Germans.
